5 fashion tips to dress in style in your 50s

  1. Don’t exaggerate: It’s likely that in your 50s you know exactly what you like, but you want to avoid overdoing it. If you like casual looks, don’t take it too far by wearing jeans, sweatshirt and sneakers all together; you’ll look like you’re trying too hard. If you’re more of a classic woman, don’t wear just classic pants and classic shirts: you’ll look older! Try to balance every style using basic items mixed with something more particular.
  2. Don’t say no to prints and colours: they can be your best aid to enhance some parts of the body and to hide others, so use them to your advantage. Remember to play to your strengths by using the appropriate colours for your colourimetry.
  3. Cover better, not more: midi skirts and wide leg pants are a big yes, but this doesn’t mean you have to cover your body and not show your curves. Try instead to balance the proportions of your outfit. If you wear skinny pants, for instance, opt for a loose blouse or top, and vice versa; if you wear wide leg trousers, you can balance with a fitted top.
  4. Accessories must be an important part of your outfit, never leave the house without them! You can easily opt for a basic look and make it more particular using bags, jewellery, scarves and any other accessories that you like.
  5. Steal from your man’s wardrobe: a classic man’s shirt, a double-breasted blazer or a simple pullover can do the trick and make you look much more interesting. Just think about Diane Keaton’s timeless style! So, take a look into the male wardrobe: what can you steal from there?

I'd like some bright summery colours please especially summer tops with sleeves and a smartish summer jacket. I can't wear heels due to issues with my balance, which is a real pain as I'm only 5'1! Please bear in mind. I tend to favour ballet pumps and loafers but may try trainers this year as they are so fashionable.
