To keep your favourite puffer looking as best as possible (while also keeping you warm) you should clean, care and store it correctly until spring comes around. Here’s how!
How often should I wash a puffer coat?
It’s not advisable to wash a puffer coat more than twice each season.
How to wash a puffer?
- Preparation.
- Machine or hand-wash.
- Cold water.
- Long program with spin dry to prevent damage.
- You can use the dryer to dry the puffer coat.
- If you let it dry out, remember to shake it every 2-3 hours.
Empty out all of the pockets, close the zippers and turn it inside out.
Tip! Lubricate the zipper with gel to prevent it from rusting.
Since it’s such a large garment, washing it by hand can be somewhat tedious and inconvenient; you would need a large container or do it in the bathtub.
If you use the washing machine, choose a cold program and put only the coat in the machine without any other pieces so it’s not squashed with other clothing and it gets a proper wash.
Choose a delicate spin program.
Tip! Insert 2 or 3 tennis balls into the dryer to help the jacket return to its full loft.
How to store
Fold, but don’t crush it. Hang to avoid pressing it against other garments.
