What is the glam style?

The word, “glam” formally means “extravagantly showy glamour” It’s etymological meaning comes from 1700s Scotland as a variant of Scottish gramarye meaning magic spell, capacity of making things attractive. ” It is said to be an alteration of the English word grammar.

Indeed, today the word conveys a sense of mystery, drama and luxury, and a glamorous woman is all of those things. An encounter with her is likely to make a lasting impression.

The origins of Glam style

Female beauty has undergone different phases throughout history, and the subjective and volatile concept of glam responds to a changing sociocultural framework. In the 1920s the fashions of the time showed the woman free of corsets. They wore clothes that hid curves with low waists and they shortened their hair.

Soon after,the beauty ideals started to change. Movies depicted women who were aware of their sensuality and they would enhance it by being powerful and sophisticated. Some of these actresses included Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo and Joan Crawford, among others.

It is worth noting these women planted the seed of what glamorous women are today. While we don’t wear the most ostentatious items or we welcome people at home wearing oriental satin sets, it’s about an attitude of self-care and an allure that evokes the essence of the divas 30s or 40s in film.
