Summer is finally here and so are jumpsuits, playsuits and dungarees, ready to make our lives easier (and cooler!). At Lookiero, we love all of them!
They are comfortable, flattering and you can wear them for almost any plan, formal or casual. We believe that they will become the star of your wardrobe this season!
Fashion brands such as Chanel, Max Mara or Fendi have put these styles back on the catwalks in different styles, from the most romantic to the casual and sporty. Take note because one-piece dressing is on trend!
What are dungarees, jumpsuits and playsuits?
Dungarees are made up of trousers or a skirt at the bottom and braces at the top, which means that you would normally wear another garment underneath such as a T-shirt, a blouse or a jumper.
Jumpsuits or playsuits, on the other hand, are one-piece garments and you wouldn’t normally need to wear anything underneath. We normally use the term jumpsuit to refer to full-length options, and playsuit for those with short-length (e.g. above the knee).
Dungarees, jumpsuits and playsuits have become more popular and you can currently find them in different colours, cuts and fabrics, so there is no excuse not to wear them at any time of the year.
If you prefer dungarees…
Dungarees are easy to wear as you can mix and match them with different garments, both underneath and on top, and easily create very different looks.
If you’re going to start wearing dungarees, we suggest you start with denim. You will see how it soon becomes one of your wardrobe staples. When it comes to choosing tops to go with it, don’t be afraid to try a print: vertical stripes are flattering to any figure, and florals epitomise Summer. If you’re worried about prints adding visual volume to your figure, stick to a Liberty-style mini floral print.
Here are some ideas to wear your dungarees
- In Winter, choose:
- Monochrome looks: a turtleneck jumper in the same colour as the dungarees is slimming and elegant.
- Colour block: add a totally different colour with a jumper in a vibrant colour to brighten up your face.
- In Summer, go for:
- A blouse: for a look that’s chic and smart in equal measure.
- A T-shirt: for a more casual look.
- The monochrome or colour block technique works well, just like in Winter.
Three looks with dungarees
How to wear dungarees for a sporty look
For an all-terrain look for you to be cool even on the hottest Summer days, we suggest denim dungarees, a short-sleeved t-shirt in grey and crisp white trainers.
How to wear dungarees for a minimalist look
During the hot months, flowing textures and fabrics are a must because they are comfortable and very cool. If you prefer not showing off your arms, opt for a linen blouse in a flattering Summer colour like coral or salmon, and wear it with white dungarees for extra brightness. Pair it with sandals, and a brown handbag and don’t forget a Fedora hat if you’re looking to make a statement.
How to wear dungarees for a classic look
If you want to play it safe, black and white remains the safest bet. If you love classical styles but you fancy a pair of dungarees, wear them with a white blouse and black loafers.
Matching the colour of the dungarees to your shoes will create a monochromatic vertical line that is visually very flattering. Finish off the outfit with a blazer and you’ll look fantastic.
If you prefer jumpsuits or playsuits…
If you love jumpsuits, you probably already own a black one: it’s a wardrobe staple that can be worn for both day and night plans. Unlike dungarees, jumpsuits can be found with different necklines, such as Bardot, V-neck, strapless, halter…
This season, choose your jumpsuit or playsuit in off-white linen and make it shine with some colourful accessories. Here are our favourite tips:
- If you are tall, own it! Choose a jumpsuit or playsuit with the top in one colour and the bottom in another. This will visually create an optical cut that is flattering and cool.
- On the other hand, if you are shorter, opt for a jumpsuit or playsuit in one colour or two shades of the same colour, or one with vertical stripes.
- If you are looking for a slimming effect, choose a jumpsuit or playsuit with an open neckline.
- If you have a triangle silhouette, with fairly narrow shoulders, a bardot or strapless neckline, or a ruffle around the neckline, are flattering options that enhance your silhouette.
- If you’re looking to flatter your hips, avoid pockets, as they add visual volume.
We hope that we have convinced you: You there really is a jumpsuit or playsuit for any silhouette! Don’t give up on them: just keep your shape in mind, and choose the one that best suits you.
