Tips to wear tailoring and suits

10 May, 2021

Make room because it’s time for a classicist!

This season, the tailored look is reinvented and looking for room in your wardrobe and your heart. Keep it modern and stylish by choosing earthy tones and feminine details and rolling up your sleeves to reveal a glimpse of the wrists.

What is a tailored suit?

When we talk about a tailored suit, we’re referring to the traditional combination of a jacket and trousers or skirt. If you thought that, due to the pandemic, you’d never wear anything other than comfy joggers, think again: tailored suits have arrived in force this season and are becoming essential garments to bring elegance and sophistication to your daily looks. They are versatile enough to be enjoyed in both formal and informal contexts – it’s time to explore how to make this look your own!

How to wear the suit jacket this season

We’ve seen no end of suits in every style on the catwalks. From masculine cuts to romantic feminine looks; loose-fitting, slim-fitting; plain blazers and cropped, fitted jackets and full-on lapel and sleeve detailing. The traditional straight trouser leg is still the most popular, although there is room to play with the trend. If you’re feeling brave, palazzo trousers, bermuda shorts and midi skirts are all in, and we couldn’t think of a most perfect reason to ditch the classic chino trousers for one day!

If we are discussing colours, we need to consider pastel shades and whites. Although combinations are possible (and look great), the monochrome look is always a safe bet. As for fabrics, you will find tailored suits in crepe, silk and linen, which all are llight and comfortable fabrics that will make you look great!

Have you already got your suit for this season? You could be a trend-setter by dipping your toe in the athleisure trend. It’s as easy as combining a blazer with a pair of palazzo trousers and jazzy trainers. And why not finish off the look with a cap? If you want to give it a more feminine touch, wear your blazer with a mini skirt and wedge sandals; the combinations truly are endless!

Do’s and don’ts of the suit look

DO
  • Play with colours in the same chromatic range, and mix and match to get the perfect look.
  • If your shoulders are narrow, try a jacket with shoulder pads. It will help you to balance your silhouette.
  • Wear a belt over your blazer if you are a fan of a more figure-hugging look. Close it over the blazer for a unique twist touch to your look.
DON'T
  • Shorten your torso with cropped blazers if you are lucky enough to have long legs.
  • Drag your sleeves. Extra-long sleeves are out, and we prefer to leave an inch of your wrist exposed: this is a simple style trick that can be slimming and will elevate your look in seconds!
  • Overload your look with accessories. For a look that stands out, remember that less is more. Avoid too many flashy accessories.

Styling tips for a suit look

To nail the tailored look this spring, choose fluid garments in the colours of the season. We have prepared three perfect looks to inspire you.

Look 1: Total White

The combination of whites and earthy tones results in elegant, pure and sophisticated looks. To push it even more into trendy territory, combine a flowing white blazer with a pair of high-waist trousers. You will be able to highlight your waist and emphasise your legs. Add a casual touch with a basic cotton T-shirt. Choose a vibrant lipstick to add a touch of colour to your outfit and enjoy the day, you’ll look your best!

Look 2: step out of your comfort zone

If you enjoy mixing different styles, try this for size: a straight-cut blazer, over a polo shirt or a T-shirt, with a pleated midi skirt. Mixing classic and sportswear is a safe bet if you’re adventurous enough to go off the beaten track. If you want to add a splash of colour, choose a blazer and skirt combination in neutral colours, such as camel, with a shirt in a more vibrant colour, such as sky blue.

Look 2: a feminine look

Who said tailored suits aren’t feminine? If you like to highlight your silhouette, you need a tailored jacket. Pair it with a pair of high-waisted straight trousers and a lace cami underneath for a sensual touch. Our favourite look must include pastels and a pair of comfortable heeled sandals. We can’t wait to see you wearing this one!
