So, 2020 has been some year. But it’s now, finally easing to a close. So what better time to look back on an incredible 12 months and say goodbye to all that’s been, to some of the looks we’ve loved and some we’ll be leaving behind as we welcome in the trends that are giving us the little push we need to start 2021 right. Let’s have a look.
Trends We’ll Be Happy to Leave in 2020
- Stay in your Comfy zone
- Farewell Maxi-purses
- Ditch the One Style
- Tone Down Your Sexy Style
2020’s seismic shift in our lives, saw the comfy style evolve and become a key part of our everyday outfits. It upgraded from a trend, to a way of life endorsed by designers and the streets. Heels, uncomfortable (but stylish) tight clothes and 21st century corsets, you’ve been wonderful but thanks, we’re moving on.
Sorry, but they’re just not convenient or flattering. We’re not talking big purses, we’re talking HUGE purses, purses you could fit your entire family in And the dog. When a purse gets too big, we’re looking at your Maxi-purse, it unbalances the silhouette. We don’t think we’ll be seeing this one again.
Minimal style made an appearance in summer 2020. Suddenly, less was best. One colour, soft make-up and basic accessories became king and queen of our style. That’s now in the past. Next summer we want to shine with clothes from different eras and styles. 2021, we’re ready for you. And we can’t wait.
In the empowerment era, rules have changed. A low neckline and a little cleavage is now balanced with oversized masculine trousers, over-the-knee boots with a thick sole and a leather miniskirt with a knitted jumper. Sexy but subtle, that’s a little more like it.
Trends We Can’t Wait to Welcome in 2021
Better late than never. Perhaps it owes something to the ravish fourth season of The Crown, but the athleisure and the comfy style of 2020 just stopped doing it for us. We’re now dreaming of combining hiking boots with our best wrap dress, a knitted cardigan and a down jacket. Positively regal.
Thinking about metalized fabrics, halter satin dresses and jewel tops makes us feel special. They take us to the summer, the beach or the disco. The good old days. And in 2021, that’s exactly what we’re looking to bring back. Let’s say hello again to ‘fun’ our old and much-missed friend.
Bib collars, pleated skirts and brooches. Looking back gives a great sense of nostalgia and optimism for the future, opening up a wonderful range of pieces and styles to light up the present. This philosophy sparked designers including Gucci, Prada, and Victoria Beckham into life. Let’s throwback and look forward.
