Relying on some basic pieces to build your daily outfits is one of the easiest and longest-standing tricks of well-dressed people. One of the items that cannot be missing from your wardrobe is the black turtleneck or roll neck jumper.
At Lookiero we love it because it works as a warm layer while also being trendy and sophisticated. There are many styles to choose from and countless ways of wearing it. Here our Personal Shoppers have come up with some creative ideas on how to style a black roll neck jumper and also how to make it work for different body types. Keep reading!
Triangular body shape styling ideas:
Women with this type of body have fuller hips in proportion to the upper body, it’s also known as “pear” shape. The idea is to conceal your lower half and enhance the upper body to balance out your proportions.
This look is easygoing for the day-to-day, yet elegant enought to keep you looking put-together. Opt for flare or bell-bottom jeans to balance out your bottom half, then throw on a structured blazer for proportion and volume on your upper body.
Try this look, which combines rocker and a bohemian vibes, to bring out your best silhouette. Create a V line with a soft lingerie top over the jumper and add a long, pleated skirt to lengthen your lower half. Here we used a print skirt but a solid colour also works. Finally, the biker jacket will add structure to your shoulders and edgy feel to the look.
Hourglass Body Shape Styling ideas:
Women who have this type of body have shoulders and hips of proportional width and a defined waist. It’s a very desirable, balanced and feminine type of body.
For this body shape, enhancing the waist is always key. The trick to ace this look is to wear a biker jacket that is slightly fitted. Then match it with high-rise trousers that contour your hips (but are not tight) to show off your silhouette. Do wear heels for an added slimming effect.
Try a black, classic blazer with a high-waisted skirt; then layer a foulard underneath the blazer to add colour and dimension to the outfit. The slits of the skirt will make your legs look super long while the fit of the blazer will enhance your waist beautifully. All eyes will be on you!
Inverted triangle body shape styling ideas:
Women with this type of body have wider shoulders and back in proportion to the lower body. Ideally we want to create looks that enhance your lower body curves and conceal the breadth of the upper half.
Embrace denim! This is an easy one to pull off and very comfortable to wear. Make sure you choose wide leg jeans or culottes and pair them up with a soft, button-down denim shirt that doesn’t add any extra bulk to your top half. Wear it with trainers and enjoy your day!
A great look idea for when the night falls is to grab a tweed jacket and match it with wide leg trousers that add volume you lower half. Your black roll neck will serve as the perfect connector to bring these two pieces together. Pair up this look with black ankle boots, put on your favourite lip colour and you will dazzle everyone!
Curvy body shape styling ideas:
If your body has generous proportions you can either opt for enhancing your curves or concealing them.
If you want to conceal your curves, wear your turtleneck with darted trousers to make your legs look longer. Then, wear minimalistic frock coat on top to create lengthening effect that will flatter your shape. Dare to try it in a mint green colour we did here!
If you’d rather enhance your curves, try your jumper with a fitted, mid-length skirt and throw on a long cardigan. The latter will create vertical lines that lengthen the silhouette while keeping you warm if the temperature drops. If you’re in the mood, try adding a belt to enhance your waist, but it’s not strictly necessary.
