How to organise and get your wardrobe ready for 2023

Good style starts with a good wardrobe. It’s not enough just to have your clothes in order, it’s essential that you know what you already own, how to get the most out of these clothes and see what you’re missing to ensure you get the style you’ve always wanted. Here are the keys to loving your wardrobe.

Do you know how many clothes you have in your wardrobe? What are you missing? How to combine what you already have? Don’t panic! Let’s go step by step to not only get your wardrobe under control but also find the best way to get the most out of what you already have, keep your expenses under control and avoid unnecessary purchases that gather dust in your wardrobe. Here are our Personal Shoppers’ tips on how to start organising your wardrobe and make the most of it.

3 things to consider before starting your capsule wardrobe

  • We are never tired of repeating it. You don’t need an infinite number of clothes to dress well, just the right ones for you and your lifestyle: you can have tons of clothes, but if they don’t match each other and your personality, you’ll always feel like you have nothing to wear.
  • Be prepared to get rid of some of your clothes: this is important, because if you don’t feel like getting rid of the clothes you own, you will always find the most outlandish excuses to keep them, and you won’t get anywhere.
  • Make sure you have in mind what you need: your current lifestyle, where you live, the environment you work in, how you spend your free time, are all important issues to have the perfect wardrobe. Think about all aspects of your life and how you prefer to dress for each occasion. That’s the first step to success.

Steps to create your capsule wardrobe for 2023

The first step is perhaps the hardest: completely emptying our wardrobe. Take all your clothes and put them on the bed or somewhere else where you can see them all together: this will help you understand how many clothes you already own. Sometimes we think we don’t have a lot of clothes, but it’s only because we don’t see them all together. Having it all in one place makes you realise how many clothes you actually have. Now that you can see everything, start sorting your clothes into two piles: what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of. When you make this selection, don’t overthink it, go with your instincts and don’t be afraid to get rid of what you don’t need.

The next step is to organise the clothes you have decided to keep in your wardrobe: to do this, you should take into account which ones you already wear most often and how you dress on a daily basis. The clothes you wear every day should be more accessible, and you need to organise them so that you can see them clearly. For example, you can fold your T-shirts vertically (following the “Konmari method”) so that they are well displayed. Once you have done this, it will be very easy for you to make a list of the items you need to complete your well thought out outfits.

Now you know what your wardrobe needs to be perfect: buy only what you need from the list, and not a single thing more! When you go shopping, it’s important to be super-focused and not get carried away by impulses. Go home and put the new clothes in your wardrobe, and that’s it!

So what to do with all the clothes you’ve decided to get rid of? There are many options: you can donate them (make sure you donate them to organisations in need of clothes), you can sell them on one of the many second-hand platforms, or you can organise a swap party with your close friends (maybe a piece you don’t wear is the missing piece in your best friend’s perfect wardrobe!): the most important thing is that you try to give the clothes a second life and recycle them in the best possible way.

The must-haves to add to your capsule wardrobe in 2023

    • A classic coat: finding the perfect one can be challenging, but once you have it, you’ll never get rid of it, and it will last forever.
    • A puffer: perfect for the colder season and super practical, you can choose it cropped to make your legs look longer or long to be super warm.

    • A denim jacket: an evergreen that will never be out of style. Choose the model carefully, and it will stay in your closet forever.
    • A biker: a street style favourite that can easily be used to substitute the blazer if it’s not really your style.
    • A trench: perfect for mid-season temperatures and easily adaptable both to classic and casual looks.

    6 Shoes:

    • Trainers: the most comfortable shoes for everyday life, perfect for classic looks too to create interesting contrasts.
    • Boots: high ones are a must to wear them with skirts and dresses, in winter with tights, in spring/autumn with bare legs.
    • Ankle boots: it’s easy to find the perfect model for you and your necessities, with heels to enhance the silhouette or without to be always comfortable.

    • Heels: a must in a woman’s wardrobe. Ideal for your most special looks, for a dinner or a night out. You should have at least one pair.
    • Sandals: you can’t face summer’s heat without a pair of sandals. Make sure that the quality is good, and they will last long.

    3 Accessories:

    • A big bag: a shopper, a tote bag, anything that can carry all you need to go from the office to the tons of errands you need to run. A big bag is a woman’s best friend!
    • A small bag: you need a smaller bag for elegant and night looks. You can choose a colourful one or keep it basic, according to your tastes.
    • A foulard/scarf: the perfect way to turn a basic monochromatic look into an interesting one is to add a touch of colour with a foulard/scarf. Plus, they are perfect to keep you warm in this season!
