Grey: the autumn colour for a stylish and timeless look

21 September, 2023

We’ve taken a look at this year’s autumn/winter fashion shows and there’s no doubt in our minds: this season, grey will be one of the on trend colours.
Chosen by Pantone as one of the two colours of the year 2022, grey is the quintessential neutral shade. It is often associated with dreary winter days, but don’t be fooled:
It’s the perfect colour for creating elegant and timeless looks.

Colours that go perfectly with grey

After black and white, grey is the king of combinations.
This neutral colour acts like a chameleon, capable of combining with both bright tones and softer shades.
A timeless, elegant and discreet colour, capable of conveying a message of success.
Its versatility is further revealed through the different shades, offering unique meanings to each combination.

Ready to discover the colours that go perfectly with grey?

Black and grey: the infallible combination

Black and grey outfit

This combination never disappoints. Whether you’re looking for an office look or one for shopping or picking up the kids, this combination is always a great idea.

Grey and red: a bold combination

We love the energy these two colours give off together. The neutral tones of grey are maximised by the vibrant red, which is also one of this season’s colours. We can assure you that any look combining these shades will be a success.

Grey and denim: a mix of elegance and casualness

Grey has the superpower to adapt to both smart and casual looks. For an afternoon of shopping, there’s nothing better than a grey cashmere jumper paired with your favourite jeans. If we were talking about food, this combination would be the equivalent of home cooking, it’s always good.

Colourimetry: the ideal grey for every season

Inevitably, grey takes us back to the colder seasons. However, there are shades of this hue that can be combined all year round. Find out!

Winter

Grey is perfect for winter women, especially the darker shades that are close to black. It will look great on you if you have dark hair and eyes.

Summer

If you’re a summer woman, slightly lighter tones with bright details will go perfectly.

Autumn

The most suitable shade for autumnal women is a mix of grey and beige, also known as “greige”. Giorgio Armani is the “King of Greige” as he used it in his collections in the 80s.

Spring

For spring women, the perfect grey is warm, in a brighter shade than greige. To get an idea of which grey we’re talking about, imagine clouds covering the sun, creating a soft, warm and soothing light.

Grey essentials: basics for your wardrobe

.
Although grey is a neutral colour, there are some basic garments that go better with this shade than others. The grey garments that you must have in your wardrobe are, without a doubt, the following:

  • A jumper: if it is of good quality, it will last forever;
  • Grey trousers: perfect for going to the office or going out;
  • A long or midi coat: ideal to complete any look;
  • A hoodie: perfect for casual outfits and for pairing with your favourite jeans;
  • A plaid skirt: perfect if you have a more feminine and casual style.

Have you already taken note of how to combine different shades of grey? Grey is a very versatile colour and you’ll be surprised when you try new combinations. See you soon with more style tips and trends.

I'd really love some edgie casual clothes, like graphic tees and coated coloured pants please? I don't go out of an evening very much but I still want to look classy and gorgeous!! I love Zoe Balls look minus the heels and Holly Willoughby too although she does wear a lot of dresses and skirts and I think I look dreadful in a skirt!! But please remember No scarves, no heels ( cannot wear at all) no skirts or dresses. Sorry if I'm being awkward I don't mean to be, but I'm disabled and the shoes with a heel really isn't an option. Thank you
