It’s not a secret that, at Lookiero, we’ve been fans of minimalist looks for some time now, as we believe that quality over quantity is the best way to elevate your style. But lately, this term has also started to resonate within the wardrobe itself. The concept of a “minimalist wardrobe” has been mentioned in a multitude of publications and networks but what exactly is it and how can you be a part of this trend? We bring you all the tips and tricks!

How to turn yours into a minimalist wardrobe

A minimalist wardrobe is based around the motto “less is more”: a system for organising garments that allows us to create an infinite number of looks, from a reduced number of garments. But we are not simply talking about a simplified wardrobe, as with this technique it can be perfectly streamlined and 100% functional.

The idea is to go back to the start and get rid of any unnecessary items; this is why most believe in not exceeding 40 garments, and there are even those who argue that 33 is enough to create countless combinations and looks that are totally adaptable to your personal style. Of course, within this number of garments, sportswear and occasion wear, such as outfits worn for special occasion, weddings, christenings or any extraordinary events are exempt – but be careful! Any accessories that complete each outfit do count towards the total.

We are talking about your everyday looks, for work and play, which, thanks to this minimalist wardrobe technique, will breathe a timeless, simple and, above all, elegant style.

Believe us, it’s very easy! Here’s how:

Here’s what you need to get started

  • Focus on neutral colours and, if possible, simple prints such as stripes, as the goal is for all your clothes to match.
  • Analyse your wardrobe and buy only what you really need: avoid compulsive shopping and opt for quality rather than quantity.
  • Plan any purchases in advance: this is the most effective way to keep the number of items in your capsule wardrobe under 40.
  • Quarantine garments before saying goodbye: a useful trick if you need to confirm whether you can do without an item is to hide it for at least a month. If you haven’t missed it in that time, you definitely don’t need it!

What colours will fill your minimalist wardrobe

You heard it from us: white, black, grey, khaki, rust, nude and brown, in all their shades. But remember that this all depends on your style, the season you’re preparing for and, of course, your skin tone and features.

According to colourimetry, these are the colours that would suit you best:

  • If you are Winter, go for cold tones such as white and black, grey and blues.
  • If you are Autumn, your ideal tones are soft warm tones such as browns, oranges and even greenish tones such as khaki.
  • For Summer types, choose pastel colours such as nude, powder pink, vanilla or lavender.
  • If you’re Spring, you’ll want to go for brighter, fun shades, such as orange, pink and green hues.

Minimalist wardrobe trends for Autumn-Winter

Oversized garments and colours such as khaki or camel are undoubtedly the stars of this Autumn-Winter season. Bring these trends into your minimalist wardrobe for a stylish, easy seasonal update to your looks.

Start planning your Autumn wardrobe today – what will be your must-haves? For example:

  • A pair of wide trousers with a masculine flair.
  • A pair of mom jeans.
  • A cashmere sweatshirt.
  • An oversize blazer in a camel shade.
  • An extra-long coat.

Building a minimalist wardrobe as a pregnant woman

A minimalist wardrobe is a very useful and practical, particularly during pregnancy. Although at first it may seem limiting, its functionality will be the key to achieve a myriad of comfortable, simple and, of course, elegant looks.

Let’s start with maternity trousers

You will need…

  • Black leggings: perfect with oversized jumpers and sweatshirts.
  • A pair of joggers: a wardrobe staple thanks to the athleisure trend.
  • Maternity jeans: to wear with any top, accessory or style.

Sweaters, cardigans and sweatshirts for a minimalist maternity wardrobe

  • Chunky knit jumpers: two, in different shades, will bring versatility to your minimalist wardrobe.
  • Oversized fine knitted jumpers: two, to be worn also as dresses.
  • A cardigan: preferably if beige and thick, as it will be much easier to mix and match with any of your other outfits and you can wear it both in Autumn and Winter.
  • A sweatshirt in either the same or a contrasting colour to the joggers: to be worn together for a perfect match, but also as stylish separates.

T-shirts, shirts and dresses

  • Three basic T-shirts: black, white and grey and, if possible, with a percentage of elastane so that you can wear them throughout your pregnancy.
  • Two shirts: one blue and one white, so that they go with any bottoms. You could also choose a vertical stripe print, to have the option of creating more dynamic looks.
  • A black dress: everyone needs a LBD (little black dress) as the base of a fail-proof outfit for any occasion.

If, as you’ve read this post, you have felt the calling for a minimalist wardrobe, do not hesitate to start taking your first stylish steps towards this practice! Do not forget to let your Personal Shopper know what items you are missing, so that they can take it into account when preparing your next Lookiero.
