The spring/summer 2023 collections showed a wide variety of colours and colour combinations. Inspiration continues to come in equal parts from the natural and virtual world. We left behind the darker, more neutral colours of autumn/winter and made room for vibrant tones, vitamin hues and bold, unexpected combinations. Here are the five most popular colours seen on the catwalks. Take good note because there’s something special about them: they’re all easily combined to create fresh and interesting looks.
Pro-tip: when in doubt, remember that you can always take a look at your colourimetry to always choose the perfect shade for you.
Soft Blue: the chill-out choice
Unlike many other colours within the Pantone’s palette, this shade focuses on relaxation and calm feelings. We’ve seen many brands incorporate this particular shade of almost softened, dusty blue for long-line coats, which were rendered in a range of materials from distressed denim to sleek leather-look fabrics.
How to combine it?
For this coming spring/summer wear it in the most unexpected way, combining it with bolder and more vibrant colours, such as lime green and Barbie pink (which took our wardrobe by storm in 2022).
Lime green: vitamin in large doses
Lime green has been gaining popularity season after season. This spring/summer 2023 it will consolidate its position as the “it” colour of the period. At least that’s what it looks like given its pre-eminence on a multitude of catwalks. The exotic green ties perfectly in with summer as a lively hue that could be seen in floor-sweeping looks by a variety of designers.
How to combine it?
Luckily, this shade goes with just about everything, from the most neutral colours (beige, white, nude) to the boldest (fuchsia, purple, cobalt blue). If you’re in the mood for bold colours, try adding just one accessory to your monochrome look and see how you feel.
Beige: neutral for high temperatures
It’s almost impossible to go wrong with a beige total look: it’s classy, chic and timeless. That’s why it’s always in fashion, even in summer. It may seem like a very autumnal shade, but if mixed in the right way it can also be the star of the warmer season.
How to combine it?
As we’ve said, the star colours of 2023 are all mixable, so why not try pairing a soft beige with a vitaminic splash of lime green? Or you could embrace classicism by pairing it with soft blue. The truth is that beige gives you so many possibilities to match. And if you don’t feel like taking too many risks, a beige total look will always do the trick!
Metallic colours: let your shine out
As we said in our previous post about the new trends for the next season, the metallic trend that started at the end of 2022, with our festive looks, is here to join us all 2023 long. Now, we want to take it out of the “festive arena” and insert it into everyday life, not only using it in accessories, but also in clothes. Gold and silver are a given, but other shades can also be brilliant: metallic finishes in blue, purple and pink on trousers, jackets and skirts can all add a fabulous touch to your outfits.
How to combine it?
When it comes to metallic colour combinations: keep it simple. They’re bold enough to stand out on their own and become the star of any look. Pair them with neutrals like black and white, or use the same shade as the metallic piece but in a solid colour, if you’re brave enough.
Magenta: combine the colour of the year
The striking red-pink colour Viva Magenta has been named by colour authority Pantone as the Colour of the Year 2023. It is a lively new red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and unrestricted self-expression, an exciting and boundless hue that manifests itself as a powerful statement. A colour full of humour and inclusive for all that you need to try in the coming months.
How to combine it?
We love it in combination with other shades in the same palette, from red to pink. It also works wonders in contrast with other bold colours, such as green or blue.
Five colours, endless possibilities. Bring these colours into your spring wardrobe with the help of your Personal Shopper and shine brighter than ever in the sun.
